Size and Location The Coldwater River is a subwatershed of the Thornapple River. The Coldwater River Watershed is 120,739 acres in size and covers portions of Kent, Ionia, and Barry Counties and falls within the cities, villages, and townships of Freeport, Clarksville, Lake Odessa, Woodland, Lowell, Boston, Berlin, Bowne, Campbell, Odessa, Sebewa, Irving, Carlton, Woodland, Hastings, and Castleton. Land use within the watershed is 74% agricultural, 14% forest land, 8% wetlands, 3% urban, 2% open land, and 1% lakes. There are over 26 miles of trout stream within the Coldwater River watershed.
