Brandon Road Study Comment Period Extended to December 8, 2017
Asian Carp have been getting a lot of press lately in concerns of migration to the Great Lakes. They are established in the Mississippi River and have been moving towards Lake Michigan. There have been many barriers and preventative measures taken to deter the invasive carp from getting into Lake Michigan, including electric and physical barriers, shown in the photo below.
"The Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study – Brandon Road Draft Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement – Will County, IL (Draft GLMRIS-BR Report) evaluates options and technologies near the Brandon Road Lock and Dam site in Will County, Illinois near Joliet, to prevent the upstream transfer of ANS from the Mississippi River Basin into the Great Lakes Basin, while minimizing impacts to existing waterway uses and users".
"The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District is hosting an additional public meeting for the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) Brandon Road Draft Report on Dec. 5 from 1-4 p.m. at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District headquarters office. The meeting will be held in the District Assembly Room inside the District office at 7400 Leake Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70118" The comment period has recently been extended until December 8, 2017.
