PFAS Fish Sampling in the Grand River Watershed
Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy summary of the recent PFAS data for fish samples in the Grand River and tributaries
Grand River:
PFOS was detected in the fish collected from the Grand River upstream of the Smithville dam
Flat Watershed:
Cowden Lake: Good news, bluegill collected from Cowden Lake southeast of Howard City had non-detectable concentrations of PFOS. These samples were collected for routine monitoring and not tied to any particular investigation.
Rogue Watershed:
The figure below is a comparison of brown trout PFOS concentrations (95 % UCL) in the Rogue River. The highest concentrations were found in fish from the pond above the dam in Rockford.
Thornapple watershed:
Thornapple River: PFOS was detected in bass and Lepomis species collected from the Cascade Impoundment of the Thornapple River
Carter/Leach Lakes: There was concern over a landfill in Hastings that could be impacting Carter and Leach lakes. Bluegill from both lakes had non-detectable concentrations of PFOS. PFOS was detected in the bass from Leach Lake
Jordan Lake: Surface water foam was reported on Jordan Lake in 2019. Bass from Jordan Lake had detectable levels of PFOS concentrations
