Bugspot Mural on the River Walk
You may have noticed while walking the Riverwalk that there is a bright, beautiful, and new mural being created. Dayna Walton is currently working on Bugspot, a mural under the Bridge Street bridge. This mural is depicting the life cycle of bugs growing from larvae to adults and hopes to introduce viewers to the basics of entomology. Dayna has grouped the bugs in taxonomic order to emphasize their physical similarities. All insects, including aquatic insects, are vital to a healthy ecosystem. Insects are food and energy to many fish, amphibians, and mammals. Insects are a major contributor to nutrient cycling in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Aquatic insects can purify water as well as be great indicators of pollution levels. There are many insects with cultural significance in religion, art, ancient societies, and indigenous practices.
Ms. Walton is a contestant in this year’s Art Prize and Bugspot is #71522. Art Prize starts September 16th and ends October 3rd, 2021. If you love Dayna’s mural as much as LGROW does, vote for her mural Bugspot during Art Prize.
