Ottawa and Muskegon Counties
 host events to celebrate World Water Day

Grand Haven, Michigan - Lakeshore Water Protectors is joining several grassroots organizations to celebrate iWorld Water Day held across Muskegon and Ottawa counties. People are familiar with water-related issues in Flint and the Detroit area. Michiganders on this side of the state are just as dedicated and just as in need of help to continue remediation and protection of our waterways, watersheds, and resources.

Organizer Shannon Donley notes, ”This is an opportunity to bring awareness that we, as global citizens, have an awesome responsibility as stewards of the water and lands of the Great Lakes.”

Activities are still being added to the schedule but the list so far includes:

  • Friday March 21: Zero Waste Potluck Feast in Muskegon.

  • Saturday, March 21st: Several “Walk for the Water”activities from local parks to shoreline beaches. 

  • Grand Haven State Park will be hosting  an “All Hands on Deck”event.

  • Sunday, March 22nd  is WORLD WATER DAY as designated by the United Nations General Assembly.  In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly celebrated the first designated World Water Day has a means to “focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocacy for the sustainable management of freshwater resources”. The Lakeshore World Water Day Festival will conclude with a gathering of groups, speakers,  poets and musicians in Grand Haven. These will be at the Loutit District Library from 1:00-4:00pm.

All events are open to the public free of charge but donations will be accepted at the doors and online to defray costs of printing and other event materials. Those interested in volunteering can visit SignUp.com and sign up.
