Keeping Our Watershed Clean With LGROW: Coffee with a Cop Presentation

Do you know where your stormwater goes? That was the opening topic tackled by representatives from the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds during Coffee with a Cop on Oct. 10.

Plainfield Township is home to an MS4 system that keeps wastewater and stormwater separate. However, stormwater created by rain and snowmelt can become contaminated by pollutants as it makes its way into storm drains and out into waterways.

Additionally, illicit discharge caused by chemicals dumped directly into storm drains, vehicle fluids that spill during a crash, neglected septic systems, equipment failure, and other sources can also pollute our Lower Grand Rapids Watershed.

That’s why Plainfield Township partners with LGROW. The organization works to educate the community and support volunteers who keep storm drains and watersheds clean.

To report illicit discharges, adopt a storm drain, find watershed cleanup events and other resources, visit LGROW's website here... Residents can also report an environmental emergency by calling Michigan’s Pollution Emergency Alerting System hotline at 1.800.292.4706.

Coffee with a Cop weekly meetups serves as a bridge between the law enforcement community and Plainfield Township residents. To learn more, sign up for our eNewsletter, and follow the Kent Couty Sheriff’s Office, and Plainfield Charter Township on Facebook.
